The Artist’s Little Rock Story
I took these Polaroids on a morning walk with my friend, Claire, and her dog, Pancake, who live in the Central High neighborhood. On the walk, we waved to neighbors, spoke to a few out-of-town families touring the school, and met a brilliant local artist, Lorria Grant-Eubanks, working on her new mural of The Little Rock Nine. What I love most about Little Rock is walking with friends and meeting new friends along the way. These snapshots capture that warm community feeling, to me. I really love the walkable, pedestrian-friendly areas in Little Rock that are throughout some of our neighborhoods and clusters of shops. A more livable Little Rock would have more of this. Folks without access to transportation or who just want to use their cars less should be able to walk reasonable distances to grab food and essentials and enjoy cool parts of the city.
Artist Profile
I’m a Central Arkansas-based artist who has been practicing instant photography for over a decade. In the midst of my work as a professional photographer, instant film like Polaroid offers a new way of seeing, one that pairs playful intentionality with an acceptance of things outside of my control. When not out taking pictures, I am one third of Wig Dog Press, a local press printing art on repurposed fabrics.
